Be A Blessing,
Be a Blessing | Stories from the Home Front 5
By First Dallas Staff
Ecclesiastes 3 teaches us that “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” While no one could have predicted that we would be sheltering at home to avoid a virus only a few months into 2020, it didn’t surprise the Lord. He is using and moving in His church to bring hope and impact lives for the Kingdom, and we love sharing stories of what God is doing.
A Time to Invite
Charles is a 51-year-old man who grew up in church but fell away from the Lord in college. Once out of college, he opened his own business and ran it successfully for over 20 years, until he began to struggle with substance abuse a couple years ago. His mother faithfully pointed him to Christ and encouraged him to listed to Dr. Jeffress’ sermons, which she sent him weekly. He began to listen through the teaching about heaven, Revelation, and others. It changed his life. Charles is now closer to Christ than he has been in 20 years and continues to listen to Dr. Jeffress from his home in Westlake.
A Time to Connect
The Brocks are Kindergarten Sunday School teachers and have been teaching little Darcy since her grandparents started bringing her to church. None of Darcy’s family are members of the church. When virus hit hard, the Brocks created care packages and dropped them off at the homes of all the children int heir class. The Brocks that they were dropping Darcy’s off at her grandparent’s address, but later learned it was her parent’s address. When a crisis struck the family, Darcy’s parents didn’t know who to call, but because of the contact info the Brock’s left on their care package. Darcy’s parents reached out for help and encouragement. The Brocks and the Children’s team were able to minister to Darcy’s family in their time of need. Hopefully this will be just the beginning of their story with the Lord and First Baptist Dallas.
A Time to Minister
Kevin has been absent from church for a while and isolated heavily during the quarantine due to previous serious health conditions. A staff member reached out to check on him and pray for him. The following week, he reached out to the staff member after watching the iCampus to say he had rededicated his life to God and to thank her for ministering to him.
Joe and Kaye have been visiting First Dallas for a while. Last week, she fell, had surgery, and has been unable to see Joe because of COVID-19. They have regular FaceTime visits, but Kaye has been lonely and in a lot of pain. Members from a Sunday School class they have been attending have been in touch with them and have been praying for them. They have been sending the link to their Sunday School lesson for Joe and Kaye to watch. When Kaye was in pain on Friday night, she watched the lesson. After 10 minutes of hearing the Scripture and teaching, she finally felt able to rest and relax. They are thankful for the ministry of First Dallas and the Sunday School class that has been caring for them.
