Called to be Courageous

What does it mean to be courageous?

Over the coming two years, this is the question each individual in our church must answer as we enter into a new phase of ministry: Mission 1:8 Courageous.

Jesus never taught that Christianity is an automatic exemption from trials. In fact, difficulties are part of the price we pay for living in this world. In John 16:33, Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Take courage. That’s God’s message, His call for you and me. In a world of viruses and pandemics, take courage. In a world of war and death, take courage. In a culture ignoring absolute truth, take courage. In your office, classroom, or home, take courage. When you go to bed and when you rise, take courage. Our God has overcome the world.

Armed with that truth, Christians should be the most courageous people in the world! I am fully convinced that God has called First Baptist Dallas to be a voice for truth in a darkening culture; to transform our world with God’s Word…one life at a time. And there has never been a greater time and a greater need than now.

We have a calling. We have a purpose. Like never before, it’s time for the people of First Baptist Dallas to be courageous.

Over the coming twenty-one days, we will take a look at different biblical figures and how they displayed courage, but more importantly, we will be reminded that we can all have courage, too, because the same God who acted on behalf of these people still moves powerfully today. And He calls us to be courageous.
