Easter Devotional | 2019 - Day 9
My Life Changed
By Alan Lynch
“And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”Romans 8:27-28
Though I have always believed in God, I did not become a Christian until I was eighteen-years-old. I do not remember a time in my life that I did not believe that God exists, that Jesus Christ is His Son, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was buried, and rose again the third day. I have always accepted the facts about God. You could say I knew about God, but I did not know God.
But the first Wednesday night in June of 1980, in South Padre Island, Texas, I came to know God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was at that point that I truly began to understand that HE LIVES. And early on in my Christian life I also realized and believed that God was always at work for His glory and my good!
Because He lives, my life changed. I was a teenager who abused alcohol and drugs and was involved in much that I was ashamed of. Now, I know that regardless of the circumstances in my life at the moment, I have a Savior who pleads my case before the Father, and that He is always working for His glory and my good as He does so. Though all things do not always happen as I plan or desire, I do know that God sees all, knows all, loves me, and is always looking for His glory and my good. That makes me want to look for His glory and let Him direct my path.
Because He lives, my family life is different. God’s love and care for me helped me to lead my family in a way that helped them to know about Him from the beginning. Because of that, our children’s home lives are different. Our understanding that He is working for our good has helped us to want to live for His glory.
Regardless of what the future holds, I know who holds the future! My life has been more abundant since I came to know God personally. I have trusted Him as my Savior, and my eternity is secure…because He lives!
No one else could bring about this radical change but God. Because He lives, my life, my family, and my future have been changed for good—both here and eternally!
