The Outreach Arm of the Church
By Ben Lovvorn
The mission of First Baptist Dallas is to transform the world with God’s Word… one life at a time. This mission statement is founded squarely on the Great Commission issued to us by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
The Sunday School Ministry represents one of our primary strategies for accomplishing this important mission. It is designed to help you carry out Christ’s command and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
The Sunday School Ministry is so much more than a place to gather on Sunday mornings. Indeed, it is the very machinery through which our church members serve, lead, fit, move, and operate as they undertake the work of the church – as they transform the world with God’s Word!
In Sunday School, you will be armed with a deeper knowledge of Scripture so you are better prepared to follow Christ. We know, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16). As such, our Sunday School teachers systematically teach through the Bible to equip you to accomplish the great work “God prepared in advance for you to do” (Eph. 2:10).
While it is essential you delve deeply into God’s Word so you may learn to walk in His ways, teaching and learning the Bible is not the sole purpose of Sunday School. The Sunday School Ministry is the outreach arm of the church! Through Sunday School, you will have the opportunity to partner with others to reach people in the surrounding community and introduce them to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a team, your Sunday School class will carry out the Great Commission together!
Through Sunday School, you will also have the opportunity to minister to your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to be ministered to by your church family. In times of joy and sadness, your Sunday School class will be there with you. They will pray for you. They will celebrate with you. They will walk through the fires with you.
First Baptist Dallas has been described as one of the most influential churches of the last century in part because God blessed us with an incomparable Sunday School Ministry through which our church members have dedicated themselves to His Word and His work. As we begin 2020, I pray you will commit yourselves to following God wholeheartedly as part of our Sunday School Ministry.
Now… let’s go transform with world with God’s Word together!
Sincerely,
