Special Friends is a ministry for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We know that every person is created in the image of God – created ON purpose FOR a purpose.
Sunday School
We engage Friends in pursuing God’s purpose through Bible teaching, engaging worship, and meaningful fellowship in our Sunday School department designed to support their unique needs. Our class meets at 9:15am on Sunday mornings on the 1st floor of the Spurgeon Harris Building at the corner of Akard & Patterson.
Worship Service
Friends who attend with their families go to the 11am worship service together. We have a section reserved for Special Friends in the Worship Center (balcony level) for Friends who need a little support from our team or who just love to be with our group in worship. There is also a viewing area with comfortable seating in the 3rd floor lobby if the experience in the Worship Center is overstimulating and a Friend needs to move or make some noise without disrupting the service.
Special Events
We also offer special events throughout the year. Some of our annual favorites include:
– Super Spring Saturday: a fun daytime event with food, games, worship, and more
– Special Friends VBS: 3 Special Sundays in late summer that brings the fun and excitement of First Dallas VBS to our department
– Special Friends Retreat: overnight trip to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Camp hosted by the Texas Baptists
– Special Needs Spectacular Christmas Party: including dinner and a special presentation of the Dallas Christmas Spectacular
