Change That Happens
By Dr. Robert Jeffress
Eye witness testimony is some of the best testimony there is, especially when you have supporting eye witnesses. And in the case of our resurrected Savior, Scripture tells us He appeared to hundreds. But it’s also clear that His disciples were not looking for a resurrected Christ.
If the disciples really believed Jesus was going to rise from the dead, do you think they would have deserted him on Friday? Don’t you think they would have camped out in front of the tomb on Saturday night awaiting the greatest event in human history? The fact that they all had deserted the Lord is evidence that they were not looking for a resurrected Christ. But the Bible says in spite of that fact, He appeared to them.
And not only were the apostles willing to die a horrible martyr’s death to perpetuate that truth they came to know and believe, for the decades that followed, the followers of Christ went through excruciating suffering, as well. And today, 2,000 years later, people still around the world are experiencing martyrdom for their belief in the resurrected Christ.
Christian faith transforms individual lives, maybe even your own. There are millions of people today who are willing to undergo ridicule and torture because they believe with all of their hearts that they serve a risen Christ who has made all the difference in their lives.
Over the next three weeks, several of our staff will give a response to change that happens because He lives. I hope you are encouraged. I hope these devotionals and the Easter story prepare your hearts to remember and celebrate our Savior’s coming, death, and resurrection. And I hope you are motivated to invite those who do not know Christ to join us this Easter season. This story of the cross and the tomb changes lives because Jesus didn’t remain in the tomb. And our lives are forever changed because He lives.
Sincerely,
