Sunday School Devotional | 2020 - Day 11

Got Sunday School?

By Dr. Jim Wicker

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”

Romans 12:15

The word “school” strikes fear in the hearts of almost everyone. It brings to mind pop tests, term papers, boring lectures, teachers with bad breath and body odor, and busywork. There are only three daily highlights at school for most people: lunch, recess, and the final bell. The only people who actually like school are usually teachers, nerds, and nerdy teachers. I know this because I am one!

However, when you add “Sunday” to that word at First Baptist Dallas, everything changes. The sun begins to shine again, the birds sing, and the flowers bloom. Why is that?

Highly Motivated Teachers. Our teachers are called by God, inspired by their relationship with Jesus, and motivated by their love of God’s Word. Every Sunday we are bursting with excitement to help you better understand and apply the Bible. We each spend hours upon hours of preparation each week in fulfilling God’s calling.

Class Kinship. Each of our Sunday School classes is an affinity group. This is where you get close to one another, share life’s victories and struggles together, do ministry together, have close fellowship, pray for one another, see examples of God answering prayers and working in people’s lives, study God’s Word together, and learn how to apply it in your everyday lives.

Got Sunday School? Are you an active member of one of our classes? If so, you see and hear God at work on a weekly basis. You receive inspiration, love, and joy from class members and knowledge and direction from God’s Word.

Got Sunday School? If so, when you experience challenges in life, you have the support, prayers, help, and encouragement from other believers who have either faced similar problems or will face them in the days to come. We “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” (Rom. 12:15).

Got Sunday School? If so, when you have joyful experiences, you can share them with these friends to brighten their day and strengthen their faith.

Got Sunday School? If so, you are continually learning more about God’s Word and how to apply it. As a result, God is conforming you more into His image.

Got Sunday School? If not, start visiting our classes this Sunday. Then when you find the right fit for you—become an active class member.
