Christmas Devotional | 2018 - Day 15

Love

By Nate Curtis

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor…”

Romans 12:10

Christmas is the favorite time of year for many, and understandably so. The nostalgic music, brisk weather, colorful lights, crowded malls, and delicious treats all create a miraculous season.

There is a greater sense of community and love among us during this time, and God is so gracious to bless us with an opportunity to share the gospel during a season where many hearts are softened. But, even though this season is special, it is only that—a season. And it seems to go by faster and faster each and every year. Very soon, the decorations will come down, the family will return home, and the traffic that once filled the malls will now fill the gyms to burn off the Christmas sweets.

The question we must all ask ourselves now is: “how do I maximize this opportunity?” I think the clear answer is love. Here are four steps we can take to L-O-V-E. better this season, making the most of this great moment.

The first step is to LOOK for opportunities to love everywhere. Whether you are at work, the grocery store, at home, or at the mall, look for people to care for and create opportunities to love.

The second step is to OVERCOME selfishness. Let’s face it, our natural instinct is to take care of ourselves first and foremost and give others what we have left in the proverbial tank. But God’s Word instructs us to “give preference to one another.”

The third step is to VALUE others, seeing them for who they truly are. Every person we come into contact with is extremely valuable, made in the image of God and will ultimately spend an eternity in one of two places. God has placed the very people in your life that He wants to be there. See them for who they are and care about their eternal destination.

The last step is to ENJOY the love you receive from Christ. We are able to love because Christ first loved us and laid down His life for us. In fact, without Him, we are unable to love others. Embrace and enjoy the gift that He gives us, and love others out of that endless supply.

Let us make the most out of this season and ALL seasons by exercising L-O-V-E to everyone in our lives.
